Bristol Rally
Once again a minibus of people set of from the beam engine at the union hoping to have a weekend packed full of fun and frolics. This time the event in question was the Bristol Rally; The theme, around the world in eighty days. Elaine and I were particularly enthusiastic as this was to be our first rally.
With skilful driving and navigation by Gav and Amanda, we found the campsite very easily but still managed to get lost trying to work out where the right field was!! Eventually we found it (after phoning for directions to around the corner!!), registered, ate supper, put our tents up in the dark and went down to join the campfire.
Saturday morning’s activity was a town trail. This involved answering a sheet of questions that took us all over Bristol city collecting face paint and points. Lunch was had at the students union, Where Cat, Elaine and I Stayed for the rest of the day doing crafts such as glass painting and making dream catchers. Everyone else went off to their various other activities around town most of which seemed to converge upon pubs! In the evening everyone returned to the union for dinner and the barn dance.
Well I think I danced just about every dance going that night, kissed a load of blokes (yes that was a dance!!) and was spun round in a basket looking very graceful with Helmet on one side, grabbing me round the arse and Barry on the other! We went as tourists for the fancy dress element of the evening and managed to win first prize for the group entry! Once again there was a campfire going when we returned to the site and the fun continued as we sang and started lap sitting competitions.
Sunday morning was SSAGO’s AGM which most of SCOGUI managed to get themselves out of bed for, to see Ali elected as the SSAGO chair. Sunday’s activity was silly games, which were undertaken very seriously, with liberal interpretation of the rules and lots of sweets! Then all too soon it was time to strike camp and return to Lufbra.
