Union Awards Night 2000
CONGRATULATIONS!
The LSU’s first awards night proved to be a success for Scogui with awards being presented to Gav for his contribution to Scogui AND for us all to share the highly contested trophy for MOST OUTSTANDING EVENT for the Noah’s Ark Rally.
An enjoyable evening spent seated at table number 7 with the Hiking Club (boo hiss!!
was made all the more enjoyable by the look on Gav’s face as he discovered the reason for his presence. I don’t believe I wish to repeat the expletives which came from his mouth but we all just laughed and everyone in the place was amazed to find he was wearing trousers!! (He got a certificate for greatest contribution to the club).
The main awards were announced intermingled with displays from some of the clubs which were intersting I believe but I missed them all – oops!! Anyway, the highlight of the evening was waited apon anxiously. The very last award to be announced was for MOST OUTSTANDING EVENT (as you know if you read the rest we did get it), the clubs which applied for it sat and waited as the list was read out. It seemed to go on forever!! Other applicants included Musoc for the Free Fest, The Irish Societies trip to Dublin, Tuxedo Swings Norfolk Tour and ISA for the International Day. We were all happy when we were announced as the winners, this was no mean feat.
We went on stage to be presented with the trophy and Geoff said a few words explaining to everyone what the Rally was all about and we returned to our seats and I know I was so proud I couldn’t help but smile!! Tuxedo Swing played the evening to an end….but not for us!!
The celebrations carried on into the night and Cat and James joined us, as did our newly found friends (?!?) the Hiking Club (who won the Best Publicity). None of the other clubs were anywhere to be seen so the geeky clubs it was then – not!! Anyway, what happened?? Well that would be telling!! Okay, okay, so I spent the night harrassing the Hiking Club, Cat was being amused!! James, Ali and Barry really got into the drinking, I do believe that two of them made it from the top of the cocktail list to the bottom without being threatened with expulsion (ALI!!). Though I do believe someone came up against a few obstacles on the walk home (Barry and walls – hmm). Geoff left us early-ish so he could make it to work the next day but Gav never even made it to the bar!! Well I had a good night and you can see a few photos for yourselves.
And of course you should all be very proud, this is quite an achievement for us all. Special thanks to the others on the CRAP committee and all Scogui members who helped out as it all went so well because it was a team effort. Well done TEAM!!!
