Club Photo

On the 25th of May, a professional photographer visited the union and we had to chance to to have a club photo taken! In true SCOGUI form, we turned up in as many different kinds of stash as possible! Hopefully next time a few more people will be able to make it.

The photographer also took photos of all the society committees, but unfortunately I don’t have a copy.

Progressive Supper 2010

Progressive Supper is an annual SCOGUI event involving members of SCOGUI hosting the club at their house for one course of a four course meal. The idea is we end up at four different houses to enjoy some tasty home-cooked food and lovely company!

This year, we started at Jamie and Matt’s house where we enjoyed some delicious spicy/non-spicy/veggie quesadillas, tortilla chips and dip and some flavoured vodka (think skittles, jaffa cakes and starburst!)

For our main course, we moved onto Megan’s amazing (seafood) paella, complete with pinata!

Vicki hosted dessert, which included chocolate covered strawberries, lemon tart, peach cupcakes, chocolate mud cake and raspberry cheesecake brownies.

Finally, we enjoyed cheese, crackers and plenty of port courtesy of James.

It was a fantastic night. A huge thank you to Megan for organising Progressive Supper this year!

Camping Barn

Camping Barn is our Spring time ‘camp’, but where we stay in a Scout hut (normally to try and avoid bad weather!). However, we were lucky and went away on a lovely sunny weekend in May.

Whilst there, we had the choice of taking part in several activities:

  • Assassin Tag
  • S’more Making
  • Pioneering
  • Caving
  • Frisbee/Nerf/Football
  • Drinking and an excellent game of pass the parcel!
  • We were also fed very well, enjoying many a slice of late night cheese on toast, fabulous cooked breakfasts and DIY kebabs on the BBQ.

However, perhaps the most exciting part of the weekend was a visit from Lindsay, Elizabeth and Edward Bear. Lindsay and Elizabeth were members of Loughborough SCOGUI in the late 60s/early 70s and Edward bear (now 61!) was the club mascot at that point.

We’d arranged for them to visit us on the Saturday of Camping Barn and they certainly did not disappoint! Not only did they bring Edward bear along with them, but a huge amount of SCOGUI programmes, posters, menus, membership cards and more.

Additionally, Lindsay showed the Scouts a thing or two about tying knots and climbing ropes! We are so grateful for their visit and hope to see Lindsay and Elizabeth soon.

Overall, it was a really lovely weekend and a great way to chill out before exams and deadlines! Thanks to everyone for coming.
